Concrete Pumping Frequently Asked Questions
Concrete delivery trucks often can't get close enough to pour locations. This can be due to elevation, terrain, or mud that prevents using wheelbarrows or buggies. A concrete pump receives delivered concrete in its hopper and pushes it through pipes and/or hoses to the desired location.
- Saves landscaping: Protects lawns, driveways, etc., from heavy concrete trucks.
- Reduces labor: Eliminates the need for workers to wheel concrete, saving on labor costs and reducing risk of injury.
- Efficient for elevated pours: Makes placing concrete on elevated surfaces (stairtowers, slabs) much easier and faster.
Pumping usually offers benefits, but some concrete mix designs aren't pumpable. In those cases, pouring might be the only option.
Rates are based on several factors: job site location, equipment needed, time involved, and total yardage pumped.
- Distance: Extremely long distances will increase the cost.
- Jobsite: Unique or challenging locations may require additional fees.
- Labor rates: Prevailing wage projects can impact costs.
- Scheduling: Off-hour or Saturday pours may have higher rates.

Elverson’s roots trace back to the late 18th century when European settlers established a community known as Springfield along the fertile banks of French Creek. Later dubbed Blue Rock for the distinctive stone deposits in the area, the settlement remained predominantly rural until the Wilmington and Northern Railroad reached the town in 1870. Growth accelerated, and in 1899 the community was renamed Elverson in honor of James Elverson, owner of The Philadelphia Inquirer, who contributed a stained glass window to the local church. The Borough of Elverson was officially incorporated on April 17, 1911, and served as the commercial hub of northwestern Chester County through much of the early 20th century. Although the railroad that once fueled Elverson’s growth was abandoned in 1983, its legacy is preserved through historic markers and the restored 1870 train station, which now serves as a focal point for community events and walking tours. Today, the Elverson Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993, highlights the town’s storied past and vibrant heritage.
